Possible New Mod??

I came across this on another forum

It was posted by P2R.

J37 intake manifold on the J32? Its made out of a plastic composite, or maybe magnesium, so it stays cooler. P2R is now making an adapter for the TB.

From what I gather, the manifold bore is 80mm, larger then the stock CL one. Im not sure if it truely flows better then stock. It has shorter runners, so torque would most likely suffer, and it doesnt have the butterflies.

Huge inlet, larger runner ports, minimal to no casting marks, magnesium alloy (lightweight), yea it flows much better than the J32A2 plenum.

I want to try it out, but the butterflies are my biggest problem right now. Will disconnecting that throw a code?

P2R is running on in their Accord, and they noticed a 3hp gain over the stock manifold with plenums. Im more interested in the torque numbers though. They havent posted any dyno graphs.

The TL upper manifold bolts to our lower, so Im going to see how much it is (its more the $200 list) and go from there. I may try it out.

interested in the numbers as well interesting stuff.

it seems interest has finally picked up with the j32 and other j-series engines.

Yea, its about damn time. People are swapping them into Civics and Integras, so the aftermarket is about to explode for it.

No, this is the new 09 3.7l TL. Im going to pick up some parts today and Ill find out how much it is. Ill compare part numbers to the MDX upper as well, just to be sure.

No, the SH-AWD version. I dont know if the 6MT (when it comes out) will have the butterfly valves.

Does anyone know if disconnecting the butterfiles causes any CELs? Or is run strictly off of vacuum.

I went to pick up my parts today and they didnt have access to the Acura catalog (Honda dealer, certain people have the login). So I wasnt able to get a price. The rest of my parts should be in Monday though, so I can get the price then.

I believe the 07-08 TL-S does utilize the butterflies, but I dont think its made out of magnesium, or has the 80mm inlet.

The butter fly valves are there, but their built into the plenum cover plate not pictured above...

"2-PIECE DUAL-STAGE INTAKE MANIFOLD

Both TL models feature a dual-stage intake manifold made from lightweight magnesium. The manifold works together with VTEC® to improve low-speed torque with no sacrifice in high-rpm power. Divided into two banks feeding three cylinders per bank, the manifold has two Powertrain Control Module-controlled butterfly valves located between each bank. These valves are closed at low engine speed, which reduces the operating volume of the plenum and increases the effective length of the inlet passages. The result is maximum resonance effect and amplification of pressure waves within each half of the manifold at lower engine speeds, significantly increasing cylinder filling and thus low rpm torque. The open ends of the intake runners are also flared into a "trumpet" shape, as on racing engines, to further improve airflow.

At higher engine speeds (3,950 rpm with the 3.5-liter, and 4,000 rpm with the 3.7-liter) the butterfly valves open, connecting the two halves of the manifold, increasing its effective volume and increasing the mass of air rushing down each intake passage. The inertia of this increased air mass forces more charge into each cylinder for better cylinder filling, increasing torque at high rpm. The manifold's two modes further complement the changes in low and high speed running made possible by the VTEC® system. Both the 3.5-liter and 3.7-liter intake manifolds are fitted with a specially-cast top plate featuring a machined Acura logo."

Per Sean @ P2R these are the parts we need:

17160-RK2-A00 $269.04 $0.00 $201.78 MANIFOLD IN.

17140-RK1-A01 $203.80 $0.00 $152.85 COVER IN. MANIFOLD

I have the adapter and thermal gasket coming on Tuesday.

I have been trying to find the 09 3.7 intake at a yard for two weeks with no luck.

There is a possibility that the 07-08 cover will fit I am waiting for someone that has done it to confirm.

I'll post pictures Tuesday when I get the P2R parts.

I have been looking into the cover compatibility and it looks like 08 & 08 are not interchangeable.

Correct me if it looks like they are a different shape.

So we wont be able to use the 09 plenum cover? The butterflies wont work at all for us?

08 and 09 look to be the same shape, but there appears to be 2 extra bolt holes on the 08 cover. It may be possible to dremel those off if they get in the way.

So you're going through with this mod, e30?

Per Sean @ P2R the 09 works 100% there is an adapter and different thermal gasket but the spacer for our car is fine. I will have the adapter & gasket Tuesday from P2R.

I am looking for a used manifold but it is becoming clear that is a dream since the car is new.

I will go get the manifold locally at Peoria Acura if I have to.

Im going to see about getting it as well. I emailed P2R about the functionality of the 09 butterflies, but youre saying they work (as per them), so Ill go ahead with this mod.

Bah, more money into this heap.

On part #5 on the above pictured is the new IMRC actuator. On your 2G CL-S you will be able to remove your old actuator and the cable. You then have to figure out how to wire up the new actuator which is attached directly to the plate. Shouldn't be much of a big deal, just check the pins, see how many wires there are... I assume it would be a similar pinout.

Have you dyno'd your car since you got the plenums? Are the 8whp gains that P2R talks about correct?

I have dyno'd my car, but I had not done a before and after, so I am not sure. My HP numbers were low, mostly because the stock catback was restrictive. I plan on fixing a header leak, already got the Comptech B-pipe, I will have the T\B bored out...then I'll re-dyno.

I just asked, I misunderstood. This is three over plenums on a PORTED manifold.

They have seen as much as 11 on just plenums so adding those up that is 14.

There are no guarantees and ymmv.

+3 from a ported stock manifold with P2R plenums which has given up to 11hp= possibly 14.

Just to give you guys a heads up on cost.

The intake manifold with cover comes to about $350.

Then I ordered the TL throttle body thermo-gasket, the CL-S intake mani thermo-gasket, the adapter and a ported throttle body. ~$340 (I got a discount, so Im not giving my actual price; prices will vary)

I will be dynoing my car later this week, possibly thursday, with it as is. My manifold should be here later this week, BUT there is a 2 week turnaround for the ported throttle body. So once I get everything on Ill drive around for a week or so to get everything settled in and then back to get it dyno'd.

I will post results. If their claims hold true, 10-15hp over stock for ~$700 isnt that bad. Plus, this manifold will be much more efficient.

So...this doesn't seems cheaper than the p2r plenums. It is about the same price for possibly better gains.

The plenums are over 600.00 and you still need to port your intake, get the thermals, the spacer & the 71mm tb (if you want it all) this intake is bigger, port matched and has a "cool" cover with a serious Acura logo! all for only 350.00 or so! (plus adapter)

This is a very cheap bolt on hp infusion imho.
