HD Trunk Springs

For anyone wondering, the part number 08F13-S3M-200R1 for the HD trunk springs are correct. I finally got them & installed, now my truck lid stays up fully & holds.

Order this if you have an aftermarket spoiler & the trunk doesn't stay up.

Add this info to the FAQ I figure.

I can't take credit for it, it was posted here many moons ago.

I ordered them before & for some reason they didn't work(may have gotten the wrong ones)

Here's my post from the TL side, which includes the part number for the installation tool.

Heavy duty trunk torsion bar (spring) part number:
08F13-S0K-201R2

For some reason, that part is listed under model years 1999-2002 in the dealership's parts system, but it is the same part number for 2003s also (which explains why my dealership couldn't find this part for my car, boy was it frustrating! ).

Torsion bar installation tool part number:
08M10-SM4-100 or 07AAF-SNAA100

For those of you who don't know, if you add a heavy spoiler to your car, and it doesn't come with these stronger torsion bars, you should replace the stock bars with these because otherwise the trunk will have a hard time staying open and it could fall down on your head if you are leaning over your trunk. I hope this helps
It looks like your trunk spring numbers are different than ours.

S3K are CL specific part #'s
S0K is TL specific.. i would assume they are different because the widths of the cars are different.

This is great.

I always have issues with my trunk staying open especially if I'm on a hill.

Where they easy to install?

With the tool, yes. I can't imagine getting them in without it. Getting them out is easier. You will need another set of hands to hold the trunk lid up. The thing is HEAVY.

Do a search on it, I posted about it. They are just PIAA fog's bolted to the stock 03 inserts then wired to a switch.

Fuzzy, how much did you pay to get the springs installed? I got 2 quotes, 200 and 80-100 dollars. Or did you DIY?

DIY...Anything more then $60 is a RIP OFF. It's not a hour of labor, so if that is what a shop is charging you then go elsewhere.
Maybe offer a tech some cash to do it on the side.

I'm curious if anyone ditched their springs for a shocks setup.

http://www.8thcivic.com/forums/i-c-e...-speakers.html

And, yes, the motivation would be to hang 2 8's off the rear deck IB.

Yeah, they don't look like springs, they are actually torsion bars... Most people don't notice them till they break and start rattling... Doesn't happen that often, but that when we get trunk springs posts every couple of years or so...

The thread that doggiestyle posted has pics...

Greenie....anyone you know ever removed the bars all together? My trunk is pretty much useless with the custom enclosure that is in it, and if I needed to prop it up, I could use an after market prop for it. Also the positive for placing larger speakers in the rear well.....Any info?

I don't know about anyone doing it here, but doggiestyle posted a link showing exactly what you said on a civic:

Yea I saw that.......I couldnt put the shock's in there though due to my box. I think I might give this a shot, I am sooooooooo tired of hearing those bars rub together in my trunk, I have had the bracket fixed twice already!

If you need the tool, I have one that I can sell you. Used once (to install my torsion bars). I also have the Factory Instructions for installing the TL spoiler, which includes directions for swapping the torsion bars. It is probably the same or nearly the same for the CL. PM me your e-mail address if you want it.

Topher, get some foam and wrap your trunk springs so the metal aren't touching. Neoprene, ensolite, I'm sure there's something available at Joannes

from above:

Heavy duty trunk torsion bar (spring) part number:
08F13-S0K-201R2

For some reason, that part is listed under model years 1999-2002 in the dealership's parts system, but it is the same part number for 2003s also (which explains why my dealership couldn't find this part for my car, boy was it frustrating!).

i did see it above, i had gone a couple of weeks ago, and they could not find them for the 03 either, so now i know were they are listed (and a part number is even better too)

but anyways i will be going to the dealer shortly (maybe tomorrow), to see if they are still available , and not discontinued

Hey guys, reading this thread, I see some comments about taking out torsion bars and replacing them with shocks. It is a great idea and I have talked with a good amount of knowledgeable people and have tried multiple ideas in my CL and just can't do it without big modifications. I did see a switch done on a TL, and looking at the trunk, they have a different layout that will allow a pretty easy switch. I put better speakers with bigger magnets on my CLS and took the torsion bars out when I added the wing, and just can't make the shocks work. As much as I hate to say, looks like I will have to get the HD bars and new, smaller speakers. I did see the part # 08F13-S3M-200R1 but later a comment was made that S3K was for a CL. Could I get clarification please?
