1/4 miles stock NSX at 12.9! secs and stock Q45 at 15.8! WTF!!!

On TV just an hour ago, C&D TV had the 2001 NSX tested. 4.5 secs for the 0-60 and 12.9 for the 1/4 mile. Wow! What did Acura do to this car? Lightened more maybe? The HP is reported as 290HP of which C&D dynoed 250HP on the wheels so it is not more HP. These numbers are par with the current Z06! Wow!

They said that the rumor about the next NSX is a V8 (which is now contradicting with what I posted about Automobile mag posting about a 3.4 liter 340HP V6). They also talked about the V8 being two S2000 4cylinders linked with a common crankshaft making 500 HP! That sounds way off. Finally they said that the car will cost more than 120K US dollars. This is all consistent with all the rumors before the latest rumor/reported info from Automobile mag. I believe the latter if you ask me.

Finally, I was thinking about our cars putting down 220HP with headers and the NSX 250 stock with a manual. Which means that the 30HP promised is way optimistic. 260+30=290HP. I know auto trannies steal ponnies but not that much. Something tells me that these headers are clost to 15Hp more.

Now on Motorweek, 10 minutes ago, the 2002 Q45 with the 340HP did 6.6 secs for the 0-60 and 15.8 I think, for the 1/4 mile. Now there must be something wrong with that test. Where is the power. They did mention something about the car shifting way before redline which I bet has something to do with them not knowing how to take off ALL electronic traction and stability control systems. This same thing happened to C&D with one of the BMWs they tested, I think the 330i which would run in the 7s for the 0-60. They later found out that the traction cntrl button needed to be pressed and held for a good 3 seconds for the car to be freed from electronic help. I dont know....

Wake up magazine boy!

The NSX has been reported in MANY DIFFERENT MAGAZINES to be running very low 13's or even dipping into the high 12's as you have already seen. This is nothing new.

By the way, since there is nearly a total lack of NSXs at the track, I'm forced to rely on magazines for their numbers. But I'd bet you'll see them running even better than 12.9 when they do show up at the track.

Or sooner than 5.9 since that is what the manufacturer is reporting which is usually pesimistic.

i think those Q45 numbers arent..THAT bad..i mean, i average buyer of the Q45 isnt gonna wanna race us...

I think the new Q is pure luxury, and Cool shit

The new Q is 3,801 pounds! that is fairly heavy, and its 0-60 is 6 seconds. That show probably did something wrong.. i read that it does 6 seconds, in a magazine at the doctors office..it was an ad for the Q45, so i kinda trust it..also http://carpoint.msn.com/Vip/Jedlicka...i/Q45/2002.asp he also says it is 6 seconds.

Also, I think Infiniti's are the most QUIET cars that exist. In my old J30t, you would not at all be able to tell if the car is on or off, sitting inside.

cool shit = power RECLINING seats, rear veiw monitor, active damping suspension with driver-selectable sport mode, you can get it with 18" rims, worlds brightest headlights, key is replaced by a "key" that looks like it's part of the key fob; it's actually part of the car's electronic key system, which provides improved security,

Thanks again for your informative post. I, maybe unlike some people here, LOVE to read car mags and watch car mag TV shows and discuss them - I just plain love to discuss what I've read about. Automotive technology just -- amazes me. Your info on the NSX makes me wish I could see that 12.9 sec run -- what channel did you see C&D TV on?? When I was talking with the service guy at Acura -- I pointed out the cherry apple red NSX and asked, "what'd that break down or something?!" and he said no -- he's installing headers and exhaust for it (don't know if it was comptech though)!! Imagine what kind of 1/4's a Comptech NSX will run! That car is MINT. Worth the price? .. hey, you certainly get what you pay for in this country, so don't complain!

As a general rule, I've always heard that manual trannies lose 15-18% to the wheels and autos lose 20-25%. If you look at the NSX example (250/290) - it's losing only 13.8%. That's pretty good, but hey... maybe that's part of the reason why the car costs $90k! Honda took the time (and money) to get the absolute most performance out of it that it can.

Now on to auto trannies not stealing too much... you may be surprised. Our tranny is reported to lose 23%, but Mike's stock dyno showed he only lost 20%. His dyno also clearly showed he got 30hp to the wheels from his Comptech headers. He may be lucky, but I think 25hp to the wheels is a reasonable average for Comptech headers for the CL-S. Hanging out with some Maxima owners this weekend revealed that their auto tranny sucks 26-28%!!! Stock Maxima SE's with an auto are only dyno'ing around 160-165hp. You do the math (160/222)! And I thought we had it bad!!!

the answer in short, power to weight. plus the zo6 makes almost 100 more hp and more torque than nsx and both cars weigh about the same. now when the new nsx comes out it will have the same performance than the zo6 for twice the price.
