OEM Upgrades

I'm starting this as an informational thread to educate the CL community of available OEM upgrades for their current engine setups. I'm talking about OEM parts off other J series motors that can be swapped onto our 2g's for performance gains or just better reliability. Here are some common and NOT so common ones:

2G CL/TL

Intake Manifold - 09 TL-S (magnesium)
Cams - 05 RL/07 TL/MDX
Cam Springs - 05 TL-S (Stiffer)
Alternator - 99-04 Odyssey,Pilot,MDX (130a>105a)

Clutch Slave - 08 TL-S (Not sure of the benefit)

What else can you guys add

Yes steering wheel that's a good one

Steering wheel - MDX/RSX/S2000
Shift Knob - TL-S/S2000

Anyone know if the 08 TL-S Clutch slave swap provides any benefit?

So just to clear things up; these are all straight swaps? No extra steps involved with fitment or anything?

no need to do the oddessy alt unless you want more juice, the CL-S alt is pretty much bullet proof.

True, but I have an underdrive pulley. I've never had issues with anything, but I've been considering another alt to give my battery a little extra charge. Kind of a peace of mind thing, more than anything.

I think for those that have an underdrive pulley the upgraded odyssey alt would gain back some of the amps lost due to the slower rotation. Decrease 1 part Increase the other and you back where you started.

Would be a great upgrade for those who have or want a high wattage systems that exceed 600+ watts too!

Oh and the ody alt bolts right up

This may not be an upgrade by definition, but I removed my sunroof deflector. It gets rid of the damn hissing sound you get. The deflector is there to deflect the air over the gap the opened sunroof makes. By removing it you are compromising a smidge of wind getting in the car for a much more quiet experience. I prefer less noise. There is still some noise but it's 20% of the noise with the deflector in. 4 Phillips screws iirc and it's removed. Very easy to put back in if u think you want too.

Md. Steering wheel is 100% identical except the steering wheel itself has the wood grain in it to match the interior of the CL in the clp or black cls wood

As for the other ones you will likly need to be creative to get everything working

Call acura and they will give it to you... Just ask for the tl-sh manifold. And then make sure it's for the 3.7 to be doubly sure

If u are having trouble finding the part number I can only imagine the install.

You may want a partner in crime to give some assistance.

I did not do the manifold cause it is not a direct swap so you will need to know what ur doing and be confident when u do it. I had purchased the p2r plenums prior to this knowledge so I opted to not do the same mod basically twice. And my bling factor is second to none when u pop the hood with those bad boys. I can sacrifice a few ponies for the reaction people give me lol

Thanks for the heads up! I thought all of these parts were a direct swap but I dont usually do the installs I got a buddy of mines who is like a master mechanic and owns his own autoshop lol And the plenums look beasty! They are blingin for sure!!

The manifold is a direct bolt on. It's still unclear if the butterflies work, but it should be worth it either way. You should have a bigger TB and ported runners to go along with this.

The two holes towards the TB need bolts, two more than the stock manifold had. I'll get them next time I am at a dealer.

Will HondaPartsNow.com actually let you order it through them, though? I tried ordering through Bernardi Honda and BK Honda and both orders were cancelled. I eventually got it from Acura Parts Club for $219.

what I meant to say was what goes in place of the intake resonator not exhaust, and all my car has is the mid muffler looks like someone already removed the exhaust resonator

Nothing needs to go in place there. The idea is just so it "breathes" better a la less restriction.

gotcha you think its even worth getting a cai when it will probably give you just as much gain removing it?

Nope, saves your money for something else.

CAI = noise machine, the OEM intake is already pretty free flowing as is.

This is a 2nd Gen cl, not a 3rd Gen tl or 7th gen accord. CAI makes good gains on our 2nd gens.

Did you get the 07 tl type s spring idea from my thread? I am running exhaust springs for a little more over-rev protection.

Any honda/acura shift knob should fit.

You can get pretty much any emblem to fit. I have NSX A emblem in front and Integra Type R A in rear.

Removing the intake resonator will help but not give you gains like a CAI will. Once removed, just leave it. The mod is done unless you plan to install a CAI.

The intake is not free flowing, that is the CL-S exhaust system. Also the CL-S never had an exhaust resonator, only the mid muffler. The 2G TL has the additional exhaust resonator though.

Possible New Mod?? - Page 24 - AcuraZine Community
09 TL SH AWD Intake.........IMRC??? I dont think soooooo - AcuraZine Community
you will have to fabricate the solenoid to work with the manifold. if you make the right bracket, it will work as all that thing does is open and close the butterflies

the difference between a CAI and resonator removal is minimal. The stock intake is already a Cold Air Intake as it draws air directly from the driver's side fender directly in front of the tire...

Great idea... how about direct links to writeups assuming there are any.
I'm interested in the manifold swap but I'm curious about that butterfly thing. Aslso I've never removed the entire intake so I'm just guessing there is the plenum then the actual manifold attached to the heads? And the manifold runners are what gets ported or gasket matched?

I think I agree. I can't see what benefit moving the air filter could have. Didn't those 2 Aussie tv guys take a car with a good factory intake and dyno test the factory intake against a CAI with no improvement found? I believe they even extended the filter out beyond the front of the car and saw only a tiny difference. But then they also did the most ridiculous test of BOV/recirc valves I've ever seen so...
Anyway from experience with other cars I know it sounds great and if done right it won't hurt performance. I don't think it's worth $200 tho
