is this anything more than an additive and can I do it myself.

Based on the rape rates per hour at the dealer. I am sure this costs them about 20-30 in chemicals at the most....

Helpo me out here the car isin today and I need to make a decision...

This just sounds like a big waste of money. You could just put in some STP fuel treatment for like $8.

Maybe Wayne or Acura_Service could comment.

Gotta be EDM (Extra Dealer Money). Do not get sucked in, and you might want to report it to a local news outfit!

The website BGprod.com has some interesting stuff on it.

I dont think the dealer will get my 140.00 though.
This is the same dealer who wanted 600.00 for spring install

I paid 200.00 on saturday...

It is to help pay for all the sales people standing around with their thumb up their a--. My last (2) cars each had over 150,000 miles, and the only thing ever done to the fuel injection was a bottle of Techron or Toyota EFI Cleaner in the fuel tank every 5,000 miles. Toyota EFI Cleaner is nasty stuff, the first time I used it I tried to pour it into a long neck plastic bottle to add to the tank, and as I poured it in the top, it immediately came out the bottom of the bottle.

Additive not needed

HI,
I just finished a valve job on my 1992 Toyota Camry with 188,000 miles on her. The injectors were spotless. They looked like they were new. I'm the original owner and have never used any fuel additives. Read Consumer Reports.....fuel and oil additives are just a waste of money. Stick to using brand name fuels and oils. Just my two cents.

Yea, I had one of the Nissan guys pull this one on me, and the price sounds about right (well, the "going rate"). They pull the injection rail and run some cleaner (under pressure) through the injectors (well, at least some do it that way)

This is one of those "dealer money makers" that they love to do -- even if you don't need it.

BTW -- I didn't say that it is never required, just that there is plenty of incentive for them to do it (whether you need it or not)...

Sorry to resurrect this thread, but today I took my car into the dealer for oil, and they came back at me with "The mechanic noticed some carbon buildup and recommends an induction cleaning with the BG induction kit. It's 3 bottles of stuff. Cost $140."

I know that a "real" induction system cleaning does require special equipment that pressurizes cleaner through the system like EricL says, but I am skeptical that the dealer would do it and I'm even MORE skeptical that I need it done... I have 65k miles and the car is 5 years old. I think I will change the coolant and spark plugs before I fork out $140 for the induction cleaning...

BG Induction Flush

30yrs. as a mechanic. Tried this stuff a couple times, burned up the catalytic converter every time. Be careful with how and who's doing it.

At a shop I worked at the owner would tell people they needed it.
I never like doing the bg induction service as I felt like I was killing their car and it smelled horrible out of the tail pipe.
Never looked but, I wonder what the afr looks like while doing the service.

138K and the car runs exactly the same as the day I bought it with 38K. still gets the same gas mileage and the only thing I do is run seafoam atf treatment though the fuel system every 30K or so

I've seen it in the shop that works on my car, the only people who get it are folks who know nothing/little about cars.

As a salesman, I can assure you what ever money the dealership would make on something like this they are keeping. Dealerships screw the staff harder than they ever would a customer. I have used Seafoam on my 02 cl. As with others I feel the only real way to clean the intake or anything for that matter is to take it apart and get your hands dirty.
