Sick of HID ballast issues, can I convert to halogen?

I have an '03 and have had nothing but perpetual problems with the passenger side ballast. About a year ago I finally yanked them both out and replaced the factory stuff with an aftermarket kit. Things were fine until a month or two ago and the passenger side crapped out again. Given that the current ballast is aftermarket, I'm assuming there has to be some sort of wiring issue somewhere deeper than anticipated.

But I'm sick of dealing with it. It's a pain in the ass and I get pulled over all the time, one day my luck with getting warnings will run out and I really don't want to pay an expensive equipment failure ticket. Since the front bumper and entire headlight assemblies have to be pulled to mess with the ballasts, it's not exactly a quick thing to tinker around when something goes wrong.

Is there a way I can get rid of the HIDs entirely and just run standard halogen lights? In the meantime, is there a way I can disable the currently functioning left HID and just run the high beams? Can I align the high beams to point down a bit in order to achieve this? From some of what I've searched, it sounds like adjusting the beams with the screwdriver adjusts the backplate itself so everything points more up or down accordingly...is that correct?

Help appreciated.... Thanks!

You could pull the headlight fuse. I think there is a fuse for left high left low, right high right low. If not I'm sure there is a fuse for high and a fuse for low. I don't know how far you can adjust the high beams. You might be pissing off some drivers if you drive around with your highs on all the time. Call around to some shops and ask them how much they charge per hour for electronic diagnostic/troubleshooting.

Hmm I've owned three 6 speed CL's now. 2 of the 3 needed a passenger side ballast at some point. I usually replaced with one out of a CL that was being parted out that was an 01 or 02 CL. Once replaced I never had to replace again....yet LOL. The last car I bought the inverters off he only wanted $50 for whole headlight including inverter! At that price I bought both H/L's so I have a spare.

I think the reflectors in the H/L's are set up to reflect differently for halogen vs. HID bulbs. But people put HID's in halogen designed headlights all the time so should work, just may not have such a good beam pattern. But at least you won't get pulled over LOL
