I watched a Horsepower TV episode showing the Royal Purple manufacturing process. It seems they put a ton of development into their filters when compared to most. It's posted on their homepage.

i personally use a wix filter (napa gold), and you can upsize the filter too if you want more oil in the system.

that video is horrible and insulting to oil filter buyers lol

theres only actually like 3 companies that make filters thats why there are multiple filters that look the same aka honda and fram.

BITOG is an excellent site to learn about oil filters. Mobil 1 and K&N filters are excellent. But for the best bang for the buck, get bosch, wix/napa gold or purolator pureone. These filters have been tested by BITOG members and they filter very well for about half the price of mobil 1/K&N.

I suggest OP head over to that forum to read up on the filters.

I personally run pureone, K&N, napa gold/wix and mobil 1 to extended intervals of 8-12k with no problems but I wouldnt hesitate to buy pureones over and over considering the amount of pleats and filtering media for 5 dollars.

That video is amazing and did NOT find it insulting (not sure how it can be insulting in the first place, ). I found it quite informative and funny.

-he curses every half second
-does not measure the amount of filter media or determine the material the ADBV is made from.
-he did not do his reseach, many of us knows that honeywell makes fram and OE honda filters.

There is much more info on BITOG and if you google, you'll find much more comprehensive tests on the opening of filters.

my butt dyno says gains may not be noticeable but remove the resonator anyway. It's not needed. plus it will sound nice. I like to hear the engine in front of me and not coming from behind

I removed my intake resonator. I can see how it improves drawing in cold air.

he said he didn't have the resources to do a real test he went by build quality and price, hell he says that in the first min of the film.

I personally found it quite humorous, and some what different.

a simple tape measure could have found the amount of filter area. and much of this information is already on the internet. all he showed us what what was on the inside of the filters, it doesnt really help the average consumer except that fram is crap.

you tube has other videos where someone takes apart mobil1 filter. the internals look very good, the glue he was talking about is not an issue. not all of them have this much of the glue, and the ones that do -- its not an issue.

Out of the 3 choices. Mobil 1. -- always been a good consistant filter, as far as build/construction and element.

Even though Champion Labs makes all 3 of the "Brand Names" you listed. Champ labs has 2 types of filters, performance & "E-core"(crap....well actually, a filter element that cost less)

Mobil 1 and K &N use the same "performance" element from Champ Labs. Even if the R/P used the same element, isn't that particular brand name more expensive?

I switched to oil filters made by DANA/WIX. ehhh, why not?
They have been consistant in quality also.

IIRC Fram filters are the same as the OE Honda filters, just with a different gasket (Honda has a tapered o-ring)

Fram's lower-end filters use a type of media for the endcaps, which people commonly refer to as cardboard. And despite questionable build quality, I'm certain that their failure rates are quite low (and definitely not higher than the competition) or else they would not be in business. Also, there is no evidence that the filtration performance of their low-end filters is any worse than the similarly priced offerings from Purolator, Champs and Wix.

The Honda OE filters are built very similar to the Fram Tough Guard filters, not the Extra Guard.
