Hi, this is my first post as I am about to enter the ranks of Acura Ownership!

I know these transmission issues are OLD news, and I am sorry if I am reposting, but I can't seem to find a solid answer. Essentially, I am trying to get an estimate of my odds of failure.

I am buying a 2001 Acura CL Type S with 110,000 miles.

First, let me say, I am buying this from a very close friend who bought it new back in '01. So, everything he says to me can be trusted.

He has done ALL of his services on time and at the Acura Dealership, so they have records of everything.

When the car has 10k miles or so, when the tranny problem came public, he took it to the dealership. They "cleared" his transmission and said it wasn't affected by the defect.

Now, he has 110,000 miles on the original transmission and it is running fine, so they seemed to be right.

However, on the internet, many people are saying that ALL the transmissions were affected by this design flaw.

So, which is it? It seems most of them died around 30k miles, so the fact his is still running seems like its fine.

But, is it true they were ALL affected?

Also, the car is barely out of the warranty period. But, since an Acura dealership "cleared" the transmission, would I have any recourse if something did happen in the next couple of years?

I mean, is it true that Acura "cleared" some of them and they are solid?

Or, is that BS? I know my friend wouldn't lie to me, but I think there is a chance Acura lied to him.

Thanks for any insight. I cant seem to get a straight answer anywhere.

I am having a nightmare of a situation. The dealer quoted me almost $600 to replace my drivers side heated seat. I thought I would save some money & buy a used seat on eBay. I had to drive 6 hours each way to get it & now find that the 2003 CL seat harness doesn't match up with my 2001 car.

From what I can tell, the 2003 seat harness is larger and has 2 more wires.

What do you think my options are at this point? I called the dealership and I can't get just the parts to make a converter.

Any ideas?? I'm not a mechanic & I'm not even positive that the 03's heated seat works, as the seller lied about so much that I should have never done the deal to begin with! (So I really don't want to trash my working seat to get the harness out to put in the 03 seat.)

What were your symptoms?

Cause I think mine doesn't like to work most of the time in the morning. The brakes pedal fells relatively the same but there is no GRAB of the rotors throwing u forward.. then after a little its back to perfect.

The other day it went away for 2 days and now it's back.

So it's not my booster or master cylinder cause I had that checked and they're fine. which leave one last culprit correct?

the check valve

well i woke up this morning, and headed off to work at 7:30 just like any weekday. Anyway, I'm just about 3/4 of the way there and the rod knock starts to get really, abnormally loud. **SIDE NOTE:**For the last 2 days, I've been burning coolant and oil, while beating the piss out of it. For instance, the other day I drove 1 mile in 1st gear at 6k rpm, haha. Anyway, i pull up to a traffic light and the car bogs real low, the oil light starts to flash and the car stalls. I manage to get it started after a few tries and it started. It literally sounded like marbles in the engine block, hundreds of them. I make it to this back road about 1/2 mile from work and decide just to punch it all the way to the job in 2nd gear, because by this time it was lacking serious power. I get to the hill and the poor F23 just couldn't take anymore and popped. Spewed coolant and oil all over the place, and continued driving. I made it to work, called the tow truck and had it towed back to my house. Now for the good shit......

whats left of the piston

these are all pieces i've either found on the road, or pulled from the lower engine cover and cross member. i can't wait to pull the rest of the engine apart. So i got home and worked on the car for a few hours and this is how it looks as of now.
Basicly everything is pulled apart up top. Going to pull the axles, exhaust manifold, drain the coolant and yank that bitch tomorrow niight after work. Hopefully this should be in by Saturday.
