Curious how the ZDX will do market-wise. The Model-X is so popular and has quite the prestige for the leading SUV BEV.

          • Acura's first all-electric model, the ZDX will start in the $60,000 range with first client deliveries slated for early 2024

Today marks the global debut of Acura's first all-electric model – the new 2024 Acura ZDX and ZDX Type S. With an estimated 500 hp in the Type S model, ZDX delivers on Acura's commitment to Precision Crafted Performance with dynamic styling, class-leading premium technology and an engaging driving experience. The ZDX A-Spec single-motor is anticipated to receive an EPA range rating of 325 zero-emission miles.1

Making its global debut at several premier events during Monterey Car Week, one of the world's top gatherings of automotive and motorsports enthusiasts, the all-electric ZDX marks a critical step on Acura's accelerated path to a 100% electrified lineup.

"The arrival of the new ZDX is an exciting moment for the Acura brand," said Emile Korkor, Assistant Vice President of Acura National Sales. "It signals our transition to a zero-emissions future and demonstrates our commitment to Precision Crafted Performance in the electrified era."

Acura will offer the ZDX A-Spec in both single-motor (rear-wheel-drive) and dual-motor (all-wheel-drive) configurations. The 2024 ZDX A-Spec is expected to start in the $60,000 range. The ZDX Type S, the most powerful and best performing Acura SUV ever, will feature a performance tuned dual-motor AWD powertrain and is expected to start in the $70,000 range. All Acura ZDX sales will take place through a new, omni-channel digital sales process, ensuring a simple and intuitive shopping experience from home or at an Acura dealership. Pre-sale activities for ZDX will start later this year, with first client deliveries slated for early 2024. Interested clients are encouraged to sign up at https://www.acura.com/EarlyAccessZDX to get early access to new information and details on reserving a new Acura ZDX from their selected dealer.

Design and Technology
Exterior and interior styling was led by a team at the Acura Design Studio in Los Angeles, marking the production debut of the Acura exterior design direction introduced on the Acura Precision EV Concept at Monterey Car Week last year. Low and wide with a sleek silhouette, long wheelbase and high contrast surfacing, ZDX expresses Acura's intense focus on performance from every angle. Distinct design details include the evolution of Acura's signature front fascia, with the brand's iconic Chicane DRLs, Jewel Eye™ LED headlights, and seamless Diamond Pentagon with 3-D embossed diamond pattern and illuminated surround.

"As Acura moves into an exhilarating, electrified future, we will continue to push the forward-thinking design and proportions of our products as we take full advantage of the increased styling and packaging freedom EVs offer," said Dave Marek, Acura Executive Creative Director. "Embracing that creative liberation, our team was energized designing ZDX, Acura's new modern expression of performance."

Further bridging concept and production, the ZDX Type S debuts an all-new Acura color - Double Apex Blue Pearl, which also was previewed on the Acura Precision EV Concept. Additionally, the ZDX will be available in the Type S signature Tiger Eye Pearl, also offered on Acura TLX Type S, MDX Type S and Integra Type S.

Inside ZDX, the driver-oriented cockpit features high-end materials, premium features and expansive intuitive technologies, including Acura's first integration of Google2 built-in for seamless on-the-go connectivity. Standard across the ZDX lineup, apps like Google Assistant and Google Maps and more on Google Play help deliver a connected, personalized and more streamlined driving experience.

ZDX features a combined 22-inches of high-definition digital screen real estate with a standard Precision Cockpit Driver Information Cluster (11-inches) and Center Information Screen (11.3 inches) with an intuitive touchscreen interface and wireless Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ compatibility3. Through ZDX's Google built-in system, Google Maps can be displayed on either screen providing sophisticated route planning with recommended charging stations to optimize travel time. Google Maps also can estimate the charging time4 required to reach the destination and can initiate preconditioning of the EV battery when the destination is a DC Fast charging station. Battery preconditioning can reduce charge times, getting clients back on the road quickly.

ZDX is the first Acura model to feature the immersive, luxury audio experience of Bang & Olufsen, an iconic brand for audiophiles recognized for the creation of innovative audio systems for home and automotive applications alike. Standard on all ZDX models, the bespoke system has been engineered exclusively for the tech-rich cabin of the all-electric SUV with 18 speakers, including four in the headliner, 14-channels of amplification and a subwoofer to deliver powerful and sophisticated sound. (See Bang & Olufsen section below for more information.)

ZDX comes standard with AcuraWatch™, a suite of safety and driver assistive technologies, including Acura’s first applications of Rear Cross Traffic Braking and Blind Zone Steering Assist.

With the new AcuraWatch™ 360+ system, ZDX Type S introduces Hands Free Cruise driver assistance technology to the Acura lineup, enabling true hands-free driving on up to 400,000 miles of compatible roads, helping to make long drives and commutes more comfortable. ZDX Type S' AcuraWatch™ 360+ also features the first Automatic Parking Assist system in an Acura, which helps take the stress out of parallel parking.

All-Electric Acura Performance
Built upon a state-of-the-art electric vehicle platform with a flexible battery architecture, a low center of gravity and near 50/50 weight distribution, the all-electric ZDX expands Acura's lineup of premium, performance SUVs. ZDX A-Spec is powered by a rear-mounted single-motor producing an estimated 340 horsepower; ZDX A-Spec is also available dual-motor, all-wheel drive configuration. Acura engineers have tuned ZDX's multi-link front and rear suspension to deliver a premium driving experience with exhilarating performance and class-leading refinement.

As with all high-performance Acura Type S models, ZDX Type S significantly enhances every element of the performance driving experience, including acceleration, braking and turning, all without compromising comfort, refinement or daily drivability. ZDX Type S will define Acura performance for the electrified era with an estimated 500 horsepower, a height adjustable air suspension, performance-tuned adaptive dampers and massive 15.6-inch Brembo™ front brakes with eye-catching 6-piston yellow calipers. Drivers can customize the driving experience with multiple drive modes, including a Sport mode for maximum acceleration and response.

The athletic stance and proportions of ZDX are complemented in the Type S model by 22-inch machine-finished wheels, the largest ever for an Acura model, and wider 275/40ZR22 self-sealing tires. Available high-performance summer tires, packaged with a gloss-black wheel, further increase Type S' performance capabilities.

Recharging on the go is quick and convenient with DC Fast Charging at rates up to 190 kW. With DC Fast Charging in approximately 10 minutes, the 102-kWh lithium-ion battery pack in ZDX A-Spec rear-wheel drive can gain an estimated 81 miles of range5.

Bang & Olufsen Luxury Audio Experience
Long recognized for its advanced audio performance, Acura's new collaboration with Bang & Olufsen, the Danish luxury audio brand, will elevate the in-vehicle audio experience of the new 2024 Acura ZDX and the entire Acura lineup in the coming years.

ZDX and ZDX Type S will feature Bang & Olufsen's latest 3D Sound Control and exclusive Beosonic feature and Acoustic Lens Technology. Bang & Olufsen's intuitive Beosonic one-touch sound control interface will allow Acura clients to create a personal in-car audio experience with four distinct audio moods: Bright, Energetic, Warm and Relaxed. Bang & Olufsen's proprietary Acoustic Lens Technology uniformly disperses high frequencies horizontally 180 degrees while limiting vertical reflections, improving the overall sense of space and realism for all passengers as they hear every note and every nuanced sound.

Brushed aluminum speaker grilles laser etched with the Bang & Olufsen logo further enhance ZDX's premium interior design.

Convenient Charging Solutions
Every ZDX offers top-in-class, comprehensive home and public charging solutions. Acura makes it easy for ZDX clients to select, order and install an Acura charger in their home and to find and use available public chargers on the way to their next destination.

Acura Home Electrification (Acura HE) is an online marketplace designed to provide clients with an easy and seamless home charging solution. Acura HE connects ZDX clients with a network of pre-vetted local installers through the support of dedicated Expert Energy Advisors, who will help clients select the home charging solution that best fits their needs. More information on how clients can order and install Acura home energy solutions is available at Acura Home Electrification.

For those looking to charge on the go, ZDX owners can use the Acura Smartphone App to easily find and connect to charging stations nationwide with access to more than 90-percent of the existing DC Fast Charge networks. Convenient payment integration allows for all payment processing to be conducted in the Acura App at any of the supported charging networks.

Additionally, as a part of an announced joint venture between seven major automakers, Acura EV clients will have access to a leading high-speed brand-neutral charging network in the United States and Canada starting in 2024. This all-new high-power charging network will deliver market leading enhanced client experience in all areas, allowing Acura clients to charge whenever and wherever they need, in convenient urban and highway locations. Accessible to all electric vehicles from any automaker, the network will ultimately be one of the largest in the United States and Canada, targeting at least 30,000 high-powered charge points by 2030. The 1st stations are scheduled to open in the United States in the summer of 2024, and Canada at a later stage, making long-distance journeys easier for clients.

More details about the all-electric Acura ZDX and ZDX Type S can be found here.

While I am.holding out on EV only models until I see the nation's higjway charging options stabilize, I do like what this signals for the future of Acura tech potentially in the comming MMRs of their gas lineup.

They are getting the center touchscreen, hands-free ACC, and auto parallel parking. Beats GM and Tesla in offering Carplay and Android Auto.

There is also an intriguing "camera" icon on the touchscreen, hoping for a factory dashcam.

Looks like the EV batt isn't strong enough to power massaging seats.

Seems like a great model for its target audience, if I didn't live in one of the highest-cost electricy / lowest cost gas states in the country, I would seriously consider this for a second non-road-trip car.

This is feeling more and more like the SLX all over again--Honda/Acura late to the game, then forced to partner with someone who isn't a natural partner in order to slap their badges on someone else's product just to say they have a product in that space. Let's hope the rest of the story plays out the same, because that's what eventually led to the MDX which has been a strong contender with good design in every single generation.

Front nose is inspired by Antarctic icebreakers, nice! I bet they could gain 30 miles of range, if they softened it up, but that would give this car an identity, and that’s wrong, all Acura products must use the same cookie cutter for the nose.

@DJ Iceman well said and I hope you’re right. Maybe this venture will give them more runway and they can build their own platform.

2024 Acura ZDX Caught Testing With Barely Any Camo

4

Sponsored Links

In August 2023, the Honda Motor Company finally pulled the cover off the 2024 Acura ZDX, which will serve as an all-new all-electric crossover co-developed with General Motors. We’ve previously captured several ZDX prototypes covered in extensive camouflage, but today, our spy photographers have captured a 2024 ZDX testing out in the wild in very minimal disguise.

As covered by GM Authority sister site Motrolix, this ZDX unit is the closest to a production-ready unit we’ve seen thus far, and features hardly any camouflage aside from a black-and-white section on the lower front fascia. As such, the vast majority of the upcoming EV is clearly on display.

Starting at the front, this prototype features LED lighting elements that follow the body lines created by the hood. Of course, as an electric vehicle, there’s no need for a typical front grille, so a diamond-shaped trim piece is mounted front-and-center, underlined by an aggressively shaped lower bumper section incorporating the vehicle’s cooling system grille.

Moving around to the side, this ZDX example is riding on a set of large alloy wheels with six split spokes and a flashy silver finish. The sideview mirror housings are finished in black, while the rearmost pillar is also blacked-out. Notably, the door handles are body-colored.

Out back, the taillights are oriented in a horizontal fashion, stretching from the rear hatch onto the rear fenders. In addition, the lower section of the rear bumper is finished in black.

It’s worth noting that this prototype draws much inspiration from the Acura Prevision EV Concept that debuted last year.

As a reminder, The General and Honda formed a strategic alliance way back in 2020 intended to drive the co-development of common vehicle platforms. As such, the upcoming Honda Prologue and Acura ZDX will feature GM Ultium battery and GM Ultium Drive motor technologies, and ride on the GM BEV3 platform.

Production of the Acura ZDX is expected to take place alongside the Cadillac Lyriq at the GM Spring Hill plant in Tennessee, while the Honda Prologue will be built at the GM Ramos Arizpe plant in Mexico, alongside the Chevy Blazer EV and Chevy Equinox EV.

The reservation books for the 2024 Acura ZDX are now open. Customers can reserve the vehicle in either standard or S variant online or at a dealership. First deliveries will take place in early 2024.

The Acura ZDX Energy Key Card will be available as both a physical card and a downloadable card in the owners’ digital wallet.

The future owners can choose one of the three available charging packages. Both variants are equipped with a 102 kWh battery pack, which stores enough energy for an EPA-rated range of 340 miles (547 kilometers) for the single-motor version and 288 miles (463 kilometers) for the dual-motor ZDX S.

The model was designed at Acura’s Design Studio in Los Angeles. The lines of the vehicle were inspired by the Acura Precision EV Concept, which was unveiled at Monterey Car Week last year. The low-slung silhouette and the long wheelbase make it look more like a sports car and less like an SUV.

On board the Acura ZDX, there is the 22-inch high-definition digital screen, which integrates the instrument cluster and the central touchscreen. Furthermore, this is the first model to feature the Bang & Olufsen audio system with 18 speakers, four of which are mounted in the headliner.

Customers can build and reserve the car they should get in early 2024. The carmaker promises a simple and intuitive shopping experience through a new, omni-channel digital sales process, from either at home or at an Acura dealership

$74k for a ZDX Type S is a steep ask unless this thing is super awesome. That's right on the heels of a Model X or Rivian R1S. Pretty sure it'll be right up there with a Lucid Gravity too.

Recently Jonathon Rivers, the brand’s manager of product planning, joined The AutoGuide Show podcast to discuss the launch of the new ZDX and what the Honda luxury division did to stay true to the Acura brand.

Acura hasn’t been shy about how the ZDX is based on the same platform as some General Motors products, like the Cadillac Lyriq, and that it will be powered by GM’s Ultium batteries.

“It’s no secret that we did co-development with GM,” said Rivers. “But that’s exactly what it is - complete co-development. There’s no badge engineering here.”

All Acura Design

Acura’s commitment means the car’s design is all Acura, with the exterior executed by the brand’s design studio in Los Angeles. “If you look at the car it’s very unique, and yet it fits with the Acura design language,” says Rivers.

But for the hard engineering, that had to take place in Detroit.

“From the onset, Honda and Acura actually assigned key engineers to the development of ZDX and many of them actually moved to Michigan,” said Rivers. “And whether that was from Ohio or even Japan, they actually moved their families and their lives to go work hand-in-hand with the engineering team at General Motors.”

The Result

The results, he said, are what journalists, and then the buying public, will get to experience in the future.

“And what that did, is it allowed them to have a lot of control as to the styling of what the vehicle would look like. And to ensure that it looks, feels, and most importantly drives, like an Acura.”

Acura has already released plenty of specs on the vehicle with an entry-level A-Spec model starting at $64,500, delivering 340-hp and between 315-325 miles of range. An S Type model will also be on offer with 500-hp and approximately 288 miles of range. The S Type will retail from $73,500.

The ZDX is currently available for pre-order via Acura’s website with the 1st deliveries planned for early Spring of this year.

The most powerful Acura ever, the ZDX Type S, is now available for order in the United States. And there is one more piece of good news that it comes with: the car is expected to qualify for the $7,500 US EV tax credit, unlike many other popular EVs.

The tax credit applies to the MSRP. This means that the range-topping Acura ZDX Type S will be $67,000 instead of 74,500. The figures make it more expensive than its GM sibling, the Cadillac Lyriq. In its range-topping variant, the crossover that the ZDX shares the Ultimum platform with starts at $63,190. But what do you get for the money?

You get the most powerful Acura ever and the first coming as a full electric car, which is powered by two electric motors that generate together 500 horsepower (507 horsepower) and 544 pound-feet of torque in an all-wheel drive setup. That is more than what the NXS Type S supercar can do, but still not quite a high-performance SUV, as Acura describes it.

The ZDX Type S runs from 0 to 60 mph (0 to 97 kph) in 5.4 seconds and hits a top speed of 156 mph (251 kph). A lithium-ion battery pack with a capacity of 102 kWh provides it with a range of 278 miles (447 kilometers), according to the EPA rating.

Customers who go for the Type S variant of the ZDX can also choose gloss-black wheels with high-performance summer tires.
They will also get Acura's first integration of Google built-in, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capability. A Bang & Olfusen sound system is on board and will end up in the cabin of more Acura models, starting with the upcoming 2025 MDX.

If you think that is too fast or too expensive, the single-motor A-spec sits at the opposite end of the lineup with less horsepower and more range. It comes with 358 horsepower (363 metric horsepower) and 324 pound-feet (439 Newton meters) of torque.

The same battery is capable of storing enough energy for a range of 313 miles (504 kilometers). The single-motor A-spec starts at $64,500 or $57,000 with the EV tax credit applied.

The dual-motor Acura ZDX A-Spec is available for $68,500 (or $61,000) and comes with a dual-motor setup delivering 490 horsepower (498 metric horsepower) and 437 pound-feet (592 Newton meters) to both axles.

The Acura ZDX will arrive at the dealerships in the coming months. Customers can also submit an order online or via the Acura EV mobile app and receive an estimated delivery date.

Definitely seems slow for a high priced EV.
My 2.0T Mercedes would do 6.0 with sub 300hp.

Maybe they mixed it up with the non-Type S. Acura on it's website says "under 5 seconds", and while I may not have been a math major, I do believe 5.4 is not under 5 seconds.

The driving impression reviews were announced as embargoed until 5/2. Last new model embargo release was the Integra Type S where demo models hit dealers about the same day the embargo released.

So good chance ZDX demos are hitting dealers around May 2.

I think the graphics look good, but I can't get over how the two tone paint makes it look like a hearse. I wish they would just go with one color, it wouldn't look so hears-like.

You can get the A-Spec with a color matched roof. Not sure why it's not an option on the Type S though.
